Welcome to Composition II: Research in Ages of Distortion
Welcome to WRT 1060! I’m excited to work and learn with you this semester about developing as scholars, researchers, and designers. This course focuses on research writing-- how scholars communicate, complicate, and challenge new knowledge within their disciplines and communities. In developing your writing toolkits further, we will learn and practice research, research methods, synthesis, and design as core practices for leveling up your writing practice. At the same time, we will explore how writing and research can intervene in problematic information systems in our current age, such as anti-intellectualism, misinformation, and disinformation.
Highlights of this semester include:
- Writing Against the Glitch: We’ll explore how writing responds, engages, and may even sustain systems of disinformation, misinformation, and anti-intellectualism
- Reflective Ritual: We will develop a reflective ritual tracking what we are learning about our research and writing practices
- Research Methods: We will collect, synthesize, and report qualitative data to engage social and community problems
- Feedback Practice: We will practice giving and incorporating feedback in revising your writing practice and genres
